Eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is one of the most popular eye cosmetic procedures. Eye doctor Dr. Jonathan P. Grady and his associates at Brazosport Eye Institute, work with each patient to ensure superior cosmetic results. Typical candidates for blepharoplasty are usually age 40 or older, though some younger patients want to correct droopy lids or bags under their eyes. The most common concerns include:

• Excess skin on the upper lid that interferes with vision
• Excess skin on the upper lid that hides the skin above the lashes
• Excessive wrinkling of the upper lid
• Excess skin or wrinkles on the lower lids
• Puffiness or bags under the lower lid

Great results from a simple procedure

Patients may need eyelid surgery on either the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids or both. This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. By placing the incision in the natural fold of the upper eyelid, it is hidden from view. In lower eyelid surgery procedures, we remove excess skin and fat and hide the incision just under the lower lash line or inside the lower lid. We usually tighten the underlying muscle, as well.

There is typically only minimal discomfort associated with eyelid surgery. Some bruising and swelling can be expected for about 10 days or so after the procedure. Cosmetics usually cover this bruising adequately by the end of the first week. Most of our blepharoplasty patients return to work in about 10 days and full activity after about three weeks. Scars are usually hidden in the natural lines and folds of your eyes.
